Driving Intoxicated

“Texting and Driving” is the number one cause of car accidents in the U.S.

It is no secret that distracted driving is the number one cause of car accidents in the U.S. Whether it’s reaching in the back seat to hand a child a snack or answering a quick text message from your best friend, being distracted while driving is highly dangerous and can be fatal.

Another not-so-secret in the U.S. is that the number one type of distracted driving is texting. Each year more than 2.5 million people are involved in car accidents in the U.S. and 64% of those accidents involve a cell phone. It has been proven that someone is 6x more likely to get in an accident texting and driving than drunk driving. Reading a text message, on average, takes someone a mere five seconds, that means eyes are off the road for a full five seconds and it only takes three seconds to cause an accident.

It may be well known that texting and driving is very dangerous and highly fatal, but people seem still to do it on a daily basis. Make sure to educate yourself and loved ones of the dangers of driving intoxicated so the next time you hear the chime of a text message while behind the wheel, you’ll rethink your actions and choose to wait.
